August has long been proclaimed as World Breastfeeding Month
The month of August has long been proclaimed as World Breastfeeding Month!
This is the time when we celebrate and honor all mothers for making the effort to give breast milk to their infants and children.
The World Health Organization (W.H.O.) has determined that breastfeeding is a natural and beneficial source of nutrition and provides the healthiest start for an infant. In addition to the nutritional benefits, breastfeeding promotes a unique and emotional connection between mother and baby. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) reaffirms its recommendation of exclusive breastfeeding for about the first six months of a baby’s life, followed by breastfeeding in combination with the introduction of complementary foods until at least 12 months of age, and continuation of breastfeeding for as long as mutually desired by mother and baby.

From Constance Quilter, Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, “We here at the Williamson County and Cities Health District WIC division are celebrating World Breastfeeding month by hosting our Annual Breastfeeding Awareness Event, and are looking for any donations of services or merchandise that we may be able to offer to participants as tokens of recognition for their dedication.”
If you have any questions or need any additional information please feel free to contact any of the Local area WIC offices.
