Beaverton, OR(December 18, 2000) – BMC Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: BMCS), the leading provider of e-business systems management, has joined the Binky Patrol as a major corporate sponsor in the organization’s efforts to provide homemade “comforting covers” to sick, abused and foster care children, according to BP founder Susan Finch.

Binky Patrol is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that distributes handmade blankets to children that are born HIV positive, drug-addicted, that are infected with AIDS or other chronic and terminal illnesses. Binkies are given to children and teens from 1 to 18 years old who are ill, abused, in foster care or experiencing any type of trauma.

The funds, according to Roush will be used to purchase equipment and supplies which will help to streamline operations and give support to chapters across the country. “With no paid staff, the generosity and involvement of companies such as BMC Software have made all the difference in our effort to make a difference in the lives of children throughout this country,” commented Roush. “We truly appreciate their funding support but also their enthusiastic hands-on involvement. The ideas BMC and Binky Patrol are coming up with are going to make 2001 fun, exciting and successful.”

“BMC is all about people. Our employees are active participants in the communities where they live,” said Gary Pattengill, Costa Mesa site manager and the company’s director of Professional Services. “It is through our employees’ efforts that BMC is involved in many organizations, such as Binky Patrol, in the Orange County area. We feel proud to be part of such a worthy cause.” The Texas-based company is one of the world’s largest independent software vendors with fiscal year 2000 revenues exceeding $1.7 billion.

An all-volunteer effort, the four and a half year-old Binky Patrol is headquartered in Laguna Beach, Calif., with 160 chapters across the country. Over 90,000 blankets, from crib to twin bed size have been made and delivered to date. Blankets are given to local children’s hospitals, homeless shelters, emergency services and foster-care organizations.

“The monetary donation is very important, but equally important is the fact that BMC is already catching ‘binky-fever’ at company events, displaying binkies in their lobby and by participating making binkies – we feel they are truly a part of us and are very excited to have them on board.” Roush shared with enthusiasm.
