I saw your website when researching character education for lesson plan ideas. I am a theatre educator for a professional theatre company in Manalapan, Florida, and every year I collaborate with a group of students with mental and/or physical disabilities to create an original theatre piece which is performed at the Kravis Center in May(www.kravis.org). We are approaching our 6th year of performance next week.

For our lesson in “Caring,” I asked the students to listen to the story of Shel Silverstein’s “The Giving Tree,” and then create quilt squares. I then took the squares and turned them into two quilts which we are planning to donate to local ambassador Angeline Ranieri at the May 15th performance of “Lessons Learned,” which is the title of this year’s Royal Palm Project performance.

These students, who are so exceptional (in so many ways), are so delighted with the though of helping other young people in need. I am very proud to work with them, and hope to make Binky Patrol a part of our regular art activities.
