Elena Tarnowski Just Turned 12 and Loves Helping Babies!

Just because she can’t drive, doesn’t have a job and still has to be in bed before 10pm isn’t stopping this terrific young lady from making a difference to a lot of babies!

Elena loved the idea of throwing an anonymous baby shower, as we did last year for our annual meeting.  She’s taking it a step further.  She’s set up baby registries online at Target.com and BabiesRUs.com under the name, “Binky Patrol”.

Elena is working with her mom to plan a beautiful baby shower, with “a fancy cake, of course” and other goodies.  She also wants to get the word out that she needs lots of items to go with the binkies. 

Last year, Binky Patrol held anonymous baby showers across the country to celebrate Five Years and over 100,000 binkies delivered.  The and honored guests were residents of local area pregnancy and women’s shelters.  All gifts went to the local shelters of the baby shower locations. Fifteen showers were held last June.

The women were truly SHOWERED with presents for their new babies, a few “mom” type of gifts and had a great time being spoiled at the event with orchid corsages, typical sherbet/7-up punch, and a fancy cake!

Elena is wanting to do the same for mom’s in Troy, New York.  Her idea of the baby registry should make it easier.  It was decided that it would always be a good idea to have the registry going when people want a way to help in addition to making binkies.  This will make the idea of Anonymous Baby Showers spread.

The shower’s date is August 10, 2002 at 12pm-??.  People are welcome to stop by to drop baby items off.  Punch, cake, ice-cream, and more will be served.  All people are expected to bring a new or used gift.  Have people conatct me: tess4u@nycap.rr.com or my mom at: lyntar@nycap.rr.com for more information.   

People will purchase through the registry or print it and go to their local Babies R Us or Target.  If there is a shower to be hosted in their area, they can drop it off — say at Elena’s home — (you can contact her at: tess4u@nycap.rr.com) or to another local Binky Patrol chapter location — check our website for more locations.  People can also have them shipped directly to BPHQ for distribution in Orange County, CA or shipped to another chapter or shipped right to Elena who’s shower will be in July, 2002.
