This one came to us in 2001 from Simply Quilts. That site and show are gone. We’ll send you to Fabric Cafe’s site. If you find it for free, please let us know. This is their site.
Remember to always press toward the darker fabric and use a 1/4″ seam allowance. This quilt also requires small-print fabric. Something you would find in an 1800s quilt is perfect.
Cutting and Construction:
1. Cut a 2 1/2″ strip from the width of your light and dark fabric (figure A). Then cut 10 squares from the light strip and 10 from the darker strip. Repeat the process using the 4 7/8″ measurement, except you will cut two squares from the light fabric and two from the dark.

2. Cut the 4 7/8″ squares in half diagonally (figure B) and lay out the blocks and triangles in the design shown here so you can get an idea of how the block will look (figure C).

2. Cut the 4 7/8″ squares in half diagonally (figure B) and lay out the blocks and triangles in the design shown here so you can get an idea of how the block will look (figure C).

5. Next lay out the pieces in the same manner as you did in step 2. Sew the 2 1/2″ square sets together, then each of the three blocks in a row (figure D).

6. Sew the three rows together to finish the block (figure E).
