February Block Challenge for 2026 – It’s all about the LOVE!

Many people write to tell me they wish there was a way to connect the volunteers across the country without waiting to respond to a tragic disaster – something happy. We decided that we will start a quarterly challenge to bring us all together. We are not big on typical holiday designs. They have a limited shelf life. But HEARTS – hearts are easy and always in style. Here’s your challenge: Make a 6″ block – leave a 1/2″ seam allowance all around. The only requirements are:

  • It has a heart in the middle or similar to some of these samples.
  • You can piece it, you can crochet it, knit, embroider – whatever your needleart jam is.
  • Is 6″ with a 1/2 in seam allowance – this is to help adjust when measurements are off.

Crocheted will go with crocheted, knitted with knitted.

Sewn/quilted/pieced/embroidered – whatever you want to call it will go together. These will include needlepoint, too. Please ensure your needlework block has room to sew them together with the quilt blocks – that’s where that extra half inch comes in handy.

When you have yours done, you can mail them to us and we will put them all together.

Depending on how many we receive, we will make those into binkies and show them off. We will take a photo of your block with your name so we know who all contributed to each binky. We’ll send you a photo of the finished one.

Does this sound fun? It’s a quick project.

You can send as many as you want. There are some links at the right for sewing. Knit and Crocheted ones are below.

Are you feeling inspired to make a heart block to give to a child who needs a reminder that they are worthy of love, they are not forgotten, they are not invisible, and that someone cares?

We will collect these throughout the year, but this is the push for the first quarter of 2026. We’ll add another one in Spring.

If you want to join in the fun, please mail your SEWN/QUILTED/PIECED/NEEDLEART/EMBROIDERED blocks to Susan Finch.
