Amy Smart is one of those quilters, pattern makers, and creators that makes me smile when I see her emails in my inbox. She always overwhelms me with ideas and things that are beyond what I have time for. BUT, her latest issue is all about hearts. FREE heart patterns. When I checked my Binky email this morning, Amy Smart was there with FREE hearts. I highly recommend her newsletter. She partners with great small business owners.

Over the weekend, I was in Fred Meyer, and they were clearing out Christmas items at 70% off. They had a bin of fleece blankets. The total would have been $6 each. I took a pass because they were all very much Christmas-themed – not just winter. I prefer to stay away from lockdown holiday fabrics like Christmas and Halloween. BUT Valentine’s, hearts, love – that’s in season 12 months of the year!

I’m finding myself relying on unusual sources for fabric with JoAnn’s gone. Fred Meyer also had a GREAT sale on some flat sheets. They make GREAT backings, and with the discount, came to about $6 each. That’s enough backing for 4 binkies. Not bad. I was clearning out stashes, abadonded projects, projects that didn’t turn out great and ran across some placemats I made with red quilted fabric. Now I just have to pick WHICH free heart pattern to use to make a bunch of blocks. I’ve been enjoying hand-piecing lately for the blocks. Gives me a way to mix up my day after being on a computer all day.

What will inspire your next project? We’d love to see it!

Here’s a challenge…

What if you made a 6″ block with a heart or hearts?

You could mail it to us, and we will incorporate it with everyone’s LOVE from around the country and make one quilt?! That could be fun. I think I’ll throw down that challenge.
