They are told we are coming, and some are still there from the previous year so there is much excitement when we arrive. We are also fortunate enough to have Bears donated by a family in our community and this year they were "HUGE". We make two piles, one of blankets and one of bears. First we( about 6 volunteers) go from girl to girl shaking hands and telling them we are so happy to meet them. I then explain about Binky Patrol and we pass out a flyer that has our logo on it and the description from the dictionary as to what a Binky is. We take numbers with us and we let them pick a number–then they get to choose their blanket from the pile.

Our blankets are each put in see through bags and tied with a small bag of candy so its like a present. I always take extra so there are more choices. After they have picked the blankets we then pass out the numbers again, but this time I reverse the order starting at the end. Would you believe the same girl got to pick first both times.

We end up taking pictures of everyone wrapped in their blankets. The interesting thing is that some of the girls hardly look at us when we come and then when we leave everyone is smiling and we get lots of hugs!

How did Lake Ashton BP get involved with this group:

We have been delivering to these girls since 2004—-their leader came to Lake Ashton and gave a talk at our Monday coffee meeting and it touched my heart. We actually do 3 girls groups and 1 boys group plus a run away home. This is a religious organization.  Binky Patrol delivers to any children and teens in need of comfort.  There is no criteria for religion, race, or situation – no judgment, just love for these kids who need to know someone cares!
