The USA has almost 50% of all births prematurely, making it among the top ten in the world for Premature birthing.
Premature babies make of between 8-10% of US adults today. 1 In the world that is more than 15 million babies a year. Most of the world’s “preemies” are born in Africa and Asia, however it is a huge problem for the USA too!2 “More than 70 percent of premature babies are born between 34 and 36 weeks gestation.” 3
Premature birth is a serious health issue. In addition to needing smaller clothing (hats, bankets cardigans, etc.), it can lead to:
• lung and vision problems
• cerebral palsy
• learning disabilities
• hearing loss
They may be at risk for symptoms associated with autism too!
Since the1980s the rate of premature births has gone up by 36 percent to 48.8 percent.3 This brings the US to the top ten in premature births, worldwide!4
What you can do to help:

- start your own chapter
- see what your chapter needs, and start making blankets, and hats in that size
