OCTOBER 27 – 9am to 3pm
Saturday, October 27, 2001
Across the entire country, we’ll all be making binkies from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to celebrate National Make A Difference Day. Anyone can participate – no matter where you are.
Here are squares made at a Bink-a-Thon by our volunteers 4-14. They were done on cotton with fabric markers. Paints are too messy. Then, sewers make them into binkies on the spot! Such TALENTED people.
Bink-A-Thon 2001
October 27, 9am to 3pm
ACROSS THE WHOLE COUNTRY
Like a jog-a-thon where you get pledges per mile ran to help the charity, a Bink-A-Thon takes pledges per binky made on a set day by a volunteer.
This is our ONE FUNDRAISER FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR!
In six hours 256 binkies were made for local shelters and raised $1500 to help with materials for making more binkies and postage stamps.
Last year and this year, the crowd was fed by Wahoo’s Fish Taco and the 20 Pfaff machines were provided by Moore’s Sewing Center of Mission Viejo. Newport Mesa Assistance League provided some extra volunteers. 186 binkies were made. The event was hosted by the Laguna Beach Retirement Community.
Elementary schools are following the same ideas and getting the older students to help the little ones paint squares to be made into binkies. It’s easy and a lot of fun.
St. Anne Elementary School made 86 binkies with the help of over 765 students, parents and teachers January 18, 2000. It was a huge success.
This year’s National BINK-A-THON is OCTOBER 27 from 9-3 across the country. It also falls on National Make a Difference Day.
Once again, So. Cal will enjoy sewing machines provided by Moore’s Sewing Center (25 in all), fabric from Hoffman Fabrics and True Grit, Lunch from Wahoo’s Fish Tacos. Write to us for more information on the Bink-A-Thon taking place near you.
